The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker, the first outreach production of Montage Dance Theatre, was a smashing success. Under the artistic direction of Jeng Halili, the wonderful production with a cast of professional soloists and nearly 70 student dancers from almost twenty different dance studios, schools, colleges and universities dazzled in front of more than 1,000 people.

Soloists

Sugar Plum Fairy: Gina Cerato, trained at Joffrey ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Ballet Pacifica; featured performer / principal / soloists -"The Golory of Christmas", The glory of Easter", Festival Ballet Theatre, Ballet Pacifica, Anaheim Ballet.
Cavalier: Cory Gram, BFA / Butler University, MFA ( in progress ) / University of Arizona; began dancing at the Canton Ballet, graduated high school from the harid Conservatory in Boca Ration, Florida; performed with Dayton Ballet and currently with Ballet Tucson.
Dew Drop Fairy: Li-Ann Lim, MFA-Dance / UCI, BA / Columbia University, Joffrey Ballet School; performed with Chen and Dancers in NYC, Between Lines Dance Co., the Ziggurat Theatre Ensembie, and Rosanna Gamson / World Wide.
Prince: Yicun Sun, MFA-Dance & MS-EE/UCI; trained in traditional Chinese folk dance; specializes in choreography fusing chinese dance elements and western modern dance techniques; interested in the interdisciplinary practice of dance and media technology.
Spanish: Piper Harris, BFA-Ballet/ University of Utah; principal and soloist of Columbia City Ballet, USC Dance Dept., Westside Ballet, Long Beach Ballet, Ballet Pacifica; performed as Sugar Plum Fairy, Dew Drop, among many other lead roles.
Mouse King:: Branden Pohl, Chapman University; performed as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, Tateh in Ragtime, Huck in Big River, among others; currently peforming as Aladdin in Disney's Aladdin at California Adventure.
Doll / Russian: Dale Padelford, trained at Long Beach ballet Arts Center and Lauridsen Ballet Center; studied with Houston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, Alberta Ballet, ande Milwaukee Ballet ( on scholarship); currently with Ballet Tucson.
Doll / Russian: Ashley Chung, Graduated from Brown University one year early, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa; will enter Harvard Law School Fall 2009; performed as Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Queen and Arabian with Hirschl's Sunrise Ballet Theater.
Doll / Merliton: Leah Gerstenlauer, BA - English Literature / Chapman University, recipient of multiple scholarships from both Chapman University and Grand Valley State University (Dance Performance Major) prior to transferring to Chapman.
Arabian Keila Halili, Senior at OCHSA, - Commercial Dance Dept., 4.0 GPA since 6th Grade, member of National Honor Society, American Legion Award recipient, president of Make-A-Wish Club, California Scholarship Federation tutor, church youth group leader.
Clara (Dec 20, 2008 performance): Sydney Cheung, 8th Grade, homeschooled, excels in academics - has been working on high school level coursework since 6th Grade; studies classical ballet, opera, tap, musical theater and piano; loves reading, literature and dressage.
Clara (Dec 21,2008 performance): Rika Jitosho, 8th Grade / OCHSA, recipient of Plotkin Foundation in 2007 and 2008, first overall awards in National Dance Competitions, first place in Choreography at the 2007 IUSD Reflections Program.
