Christian Campos

Los Angeles native Christian Campos has performed with the American Youth Symphony and Los Angeles Philharmonic under the batons of Esa‐Pekka Salonen, Christoph von Dohnányi, and Zubin Mehta; he has also made television appearances on NBC (Tonight Show), CNN News, and Nickelodeon (The Adventures of Alex Mack). A graduate of the DePauw University, he studied music and economics while founding his own choir and orchestra. Campos served as artistic and musical director of the Schola Cantorum of DePauw from 2000‐2004. On Campos’ watch, the group performed over two hundred works ranging from masterworks like the requiems of Mozart and Faure to newly commissioned works. His concerts benefited charities like the American Cancer Society and the Special Olympics.

A champion of world music, Christian received a grant from the ASIANetwork to study Indian Carnatic Music in a group led by scholar Dr. Cleveland Johnson. The project produced a comprehensive database of ragas, composers, and compositions. A frequent guest conductor of professional and amateur ensembles alike, Mr. Campos appeared with Palo Alto Choirs on their tour of Europe, making stops at Sacre‐Coeur and L’Eglise Madeleine in Paris.

Christian is a Doctor of Musical Arts student at the USC Thornton School of Music where he completed his Master of Music degree. He has studied and participated in master classes with Dale Warland, Paul Salamunovich, William Dehning, Larry Livingston, and Lucinda Carver.

Campos is currently music director of the Pasadena Chamber Orchestra. He has conducted the Irvine Young Concert Artists Orchestra, Eisenstadt Band (Indiana), and was guest conductor for performances featuring members of the Indianapolis Baroque and Chamber Orchestras.

He has served on the faculty at Pomona College and currently teaches undergraduate conducting at the USC Thornton School of Music. Mr. Campos’ 2008‐2009 season featured performances of Bach’s St. John Passion; concertos by Mozart, Handel, and Zipp; and symphonies by Beethoven and Schubert.
