Xian Zhuo

Cellist XIAN ZHUO is a young, professional musician whose stunning technique, sensitivity and superb artistry are recognized by awards and audiences. Xian gained national recognition when he won First prize in the China National Competition. Since then, he has won top prizes in various other cello competitions and scholarship and awards from the Fe Bland Foundation and the USC Thornton School of Music.

Xian’s experience as recitalist, chamber musician, orchestra soloist and musician has brought him to three continents. He has performed widely in England, France, Germany, Norway, South Korea, China, Canada and the United States. He has participated in various International Music Festivals in Canada, Norway, Germany and China. Some of his most memorable experiences include sharing the same stage with world famous cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, conductor Seiji Ozawa. Peter Frankel, Andre Watts and Pinkas Zukerman. Xian has also had the honor of performing for over 30 ambassadors in a gala concert in Shanghai. Most recently, by special invitation of the Ambassador, he was presented in recital at the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C.

As a chamber musician, Xian has performed with members of the Tokyo String Quartet. He has also toured France in a Franco-American cultural exchange tour. As a soloist, Xian toured Korea with Yale Cello. He was also chosen to perform at Disney Hall with the iPalpitai Artist International Festival in Los Angeles, as soloist in the Piatigorsky Seminar for Cellists, the Great Mountain Music Festival in Korea and the Morningside Music Bridge International Program in Canada. Apart from being a much sought after performer, Xian is also a much-coveted master teacher.

Born in Xiamen, China, Xian received his professional education at the University of Southern California, Yale University, the Royal Northern College of Music and Shanghai Conservatory. Prominent artist teachers he has studied with include Ralph Kirshbaum, Nathaniel Rosen, Aldo Parisot, Liwei Qin and and Mei-juan Liu. He has also attended the master classes of Yo-Yo Ma, Mstislav Rostropovich, Anner Bylsma, Natalia Gutman, Trüls Mørk, Jian Wang and Eleonore Schoenfeld Xian is one of the most impressive cellists to emerge from China, combining Russian-style virtuosity with the subtle nuances, color and sensitivity associated with his native China. His goal is to share the beautiful musical fabric that he creates with audiences throughout the world.
